Location
Olrig House and estate are situated by the sea, in Castletown, Caithness. Castletown with the famous Castlehill harbour whence the flagstone for New York and London pavements were mined the infamous Caithness flagstone.
A stones throw away is Gills Bay. The Pentland ferry was started here by the Pentland hero, the book is a good read and a true story, as is the Fillipines made state of the art catamaran that takes you and your car in no time to the beautiful Orkneys. Castle Mey is 7 miles down the road and always good for a visit if Charles is not home in his grandmothers' favourite shack. The airport is sixteen miles away in Wick with delicious stovies and nearby Lybster which harbours the famous Whaligoe steps Billy Connolly calls a freak of nature with its 360 steps. Ancient prehistorical Cairns are nearby on the Moors where the birdlife sanctuary is the largest in Europe. |
