History

It was the original home of the Sinclairs, an old clan from Caithness. There are many theories as to how they got there and it is possible the old Templars came from France as the St Clair's . There are many Templar symbols in and around the house, the Fleur de Lys and the black and white patterns as seen above the entrance door in the glass.
Either way, most renovations to the house were done by James Smith Esq. the founder of the Caithness Stone company who quarried stone from Caithness and shipped it from Castlehill harbour to the furthest parts of the world. This stone is all over the grounds and house beautiful big slabs that were even used to pave parts of London and New York.

The most famous story is that of the sword duel of the son of the master of Sandside William Innes and the Lordly Sinclair of Olrig, Alexander,  over an unpaid bill at the tavern in 1715. Williams killed him by the sword for insulting his father whom the Sinclair claimed hadn't paid his due. The sword is in Sandside these days but the bill is still in the pub.

The Da Vinci code
Olrig house is on the 'ROSS LYN' the infamous Rose Line. That is possibly why people have extraordinary, healing and insightful dreams, we feel.
Anyone that knows the historical meaning of the 'Rose Line' from the movie or from the book on meridians and their meaning on the planet knows that all is enhanced what is built or done on these points and places on these lines.  Did the Sinclairs as old Templars know or was it just luck? Sleep there and find out for yourself how magical the nights are with a billion stars, deafening silence and deep travels in your dreams. According to the old records, Olrig is built on an  ancient healing site.
The architecture is magnificent with a beautiful archway and temples all over the grounds inspired by trips to the orient as were tiles imported from all over Europe. The one thing consistent in its history however is its serenity, the absolute peace the land exhumes.
